But how exactly did I get this name? Well, it turns out I was used as an excellent eyesight clearer back in the middle ages.

My leaves have a stronger fragrance when dried than when fresh.

Around 150,000 to 200,000 flowers are needed to yield merely 1 kg of saffron stigmas or pistils. Thriving in arid lands with drought and sunlight, the saffron flower has a storied history, as it was a key component in the formula of the famous Kyphi perfume, the world's first known fragrance.
